The presidential office says President Moon Jae-in stressed the need to overcome times of confrontation through dialogue in his letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Presidential spokesperson Park Kyung-mee revealed the details in a press briefing on Friday as she unveiled some of the contents of Moon’s letter sent to Kim earlier on Wednesday.
In the letter, Moon said he regrets that progress in inter-Korean dialogue was not as expansive as he had hoped for, but added that he believes that he and Kim took the first step to change the fate of the Korean Peninsula.
Moon then expressed hope for Pyongyang to swiftly resume dialogue with Washington.
Moon said the task of pursuing talks is now up to the incoming government, adding that he hopes Kim will commit to futher discussions with the South for the great cause of establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula.
